Top 5 Series: Concealers

Hey beauties, welcome to my third installment in my “Top 5 Series”. This month I am talking all about my love of concealers, and the ones that really tickle my fancy. I try and test out different concealers on a regular basis, because I think it’s such a key part of doing my makeup, it has to be right. Any new concealers I test come under harsh scrutiny, I really look hard for any problems if there are any to be found. I have found some amazing products along the way which are always in my everyday makeup bag, and what’s more, they don’t all cost the earth. When it comes to makeup and beauty products the phrase “You get what you pay for” definitely does not always apply. Some of my all time favourite beauty products are inexpensive ones.

I prefer a creamy full coverage concealer so the ones I have included will all be along those lines. I sometimes use a pen highlight on top to brighten, but I find them too shear to use alone for my personal preference. As always I do include a mix of both purse friendly and high end options. Three of the five I have included in this post are affordable concealers. Yay!!

Tarte Shape Tape Concealer

Everything you’ve heard about this is true! It really is that good!! Infact, no! Its better than good! Its amazing! I’m a total fangirl over this baby! Okay, so lets talk about the packaging firstly. You get 10ml, 10 whole ml of product with this. That is a really generous size for a concealer. It is the largest quantity of all 5 concealers in this post. It comes in a tube with a larger than average wand doe foot applicator. I like the applicator, it gives you the right amount of product placement, but be light handed! A little goes a long way, especially when you start to blend. This product is also vegan which I know is important to a lot of people. The formula is very full coverage and super creamy, it applies to the skin and blends like a dream. I got the shade fair and it brightens my complexion beautifully. It is my most recently bought concealer in this post and it is easily my favourite. I cannot speak highly enough of it. If you are in the market for a new concealer, look no further. I ordered mine from the QVC UK website and it came with their blending sponge, and cost me £28.00 before postage. Tarte do ship directly to the UK also, but beware of the dreaded custom fees if you use this method.

Maybelline Fit Me Concealer

For costing less than £6.00 this concealer packs a punch! You get 6.8ml packaged in a tube with wand doe foot applicator. This is a favourite of mine and has been for sometime. I love the full coverage I get from this. The concealer itself is of a rich creamy texture, and it applies and blends so effortlessly into the skin. The colour matches me perfectly and hides any signs of dark circles or fatigue, leaving me looking bright and fresh faced. Its long wearing and doesn’t crease under the eyes. Definitely a must for anyone looking for a great concealer on a budget. I really love this product and I always carry it in my makeup bag.

MAC Pro Longwear Concealer

An oldie but a goodie! I’ve been using this for years, and I still love it to this day. Probably my most consistently used concealer in this post. It gives a medium to full coverage, it dries matte for a long lasting wear, it doesn’t crease or sit in fine lines or pores. Its easy to blend and makeup applies beautifully over it for a flawless look that stays in place all day. This is the only concealer that comes packaged in a glass bottle with a pump application, its more hygienic this way. You get 9ml of product which is a fair amount when you consider that a little goes a very long way. It takes so long for me to finish a bottle. Its usually expired before that happens. At £18.00 a bottle I don’t feel it is badly priced when you consider how long it lasts and the quality you get.

NYX HD Concealer

Its only been the past year or so since I really discovered NYX and I’m so glad I did. So far, I have loved everything I’ve tried. The HD Concealer has to be one of the best products I’ve came across from the brand, and in its own right as a concealer. Its formula is emollient rich which makes it a thicker consistency, this makes for a more precise application I feel. Despite this it is very lightweight at the same time and it blends without any creasing or gathering in lines or pores. It gives a full coverage and it camouflages any dark circles or imperfections without a trace. It comes to us in a tube with a wand doe foot applicator. Costing a mere £6.00 its a must have for me. I need to buy a new tube actually, this one is actually empty!

Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer

Lastly but definitely not least is my lowest priced concealer of the post, coming in at £4.19 on Boots website, this definitely is a beauty bargain! I heard this raved about a couple of times, and I wondered how good it could be for such a low price point. As it turns out, VERY! Very good indeed. Its a full coverage concealer with a long wearing, matte finish, its even waterproof and transfer resistant, talk about bang for your buck! Once this baby is on, its going nowhere. Its such a fantastic product for such a little price. It always makes me happy to find amazing products that cost so little. It really goes to show that you don’t have to spend a fortune to get the best. This little wonder product has scooped up many an award too. Its definitely one to try for the beauty lovers out there. This is packaged in a tube with the classic doe foot wand applicator. It doesn’t give me a product measurement on the tube. It looks of an average size to me though.

I hope you enjoyed this post and found some great new products to try. There are some concealers I know are very popular that are on my wishlist to try. Who knows, maybe they will make it into my top 5 at the cost of one of the above. If they do you can be sure I’ll let you know. Stay tuned.

  3. I love Shape tape too! It’s my current favourite concealer. I always love Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer, it’s a little bit more light weight than Shape tape but still amazing! I used to use The maybelline fit me but I’ve got paler so it’s unfortunately too dark now!
