Perfect Eyeshadow Palettes For Autumn

You can’t buy happiness, but you can buy makeup, and its kind of the same thing.

Well that’s my opinion. We all have our little loves that bring us happiness. It will come as no surprise that makeup is mine, especially as I’m a beauty blogger. My makeup vice has got to be eyeshadow palettes. If you’re a regular reader of mine, or a follower of mine on social media you will probably already be aware of this. One thing I will say is that I am definitely not the serial palette shopper that I once was, but I am still prone to indulging myself every now and then.

Another love of mine is Autumn. I couldn’t wait to transition my makeup into the new season and embrace the rich warm tones. While browsing the Smashbox concession recently I spotted their range of Cover Shot palettes, there are six to choose from. Each palette contains eight pans, two of which are double the size of the others. As soon as I laid eyes on the Ablaze palette I was smitten! I couldn’t help myself buy only one, so I grabbed the Golden Hour palette too, just for good measure.

The Cover Shot palettes are cute and compact, ideal for travel. I think the sizing is spot on, I struggle to go through a full-sized palette. They are still big enough you can use regular size makeup brushes in the pans. The packaging has a fun holographic cover on the lid, and on the inside is a full size mirror. The compact is a magnetic close and all in all they feel really sturdy and well made. Each palette retails for £24.00 which I think is great for eight shades.

Ablaze

This is Autumn in a palette. The colour selection is beautiful, I couldn’t resist it! The palette contains three matte shades, and five shimmers. Of the six Cover Shot palettes available, Ablaze is the one which offers the warmest tones. I am obsessed with how stunning the colours are in this palette, the colour arrangement is beautiful and that pink shade is such a fun pop of colour. I love the orange shimmer and the matte terracotta shade beside it, they’re my personal favourites. The colours all work so well together to allow you to create a variety of looks. Smashbox have taken their inspiration for the palette from the desert / fire, but on seeing this, my initial thought was Autumn.

The shades included within this palette are:

  • Relaxed – Matte – Creamy beige with warm undertones
  • Moccasin – Shimmer – Light copper
  • Siesta – Shimmer – Muted rose toned pink
  • Nirvana – Muted shimmer – Deep berry pink
  • Delirious – Shimmer – Medium copper brown
  • Torch –  Shimmer – Medium warm orange
  • Throwback – Matte – Muted reddish terracotta
  • Dark Horse – Matte – Deep warm toned brown

Golden Hour

Golden Hour is a beautiful warm toned palette which has a gorgeous gold, bronze and plum theme. The shades are perfect for creating Autumn looks, but with the gold and plum tones it will transition well into Winter also. I think gold shades and purples work so well together. Smashbox have done a really great job selecting the eight colours to go into this palette. The looks you can create are endless. Golden Hour comes with two matte shades, the two largest pans which run horizontal in the palette, while the vertical shades are all shimmer. They all work together seamlessly, they apply well and blend out beautifully.

The shades included are:

  • Dope – Matte – Light-medium peach
  • Hero – Matte – Light cream bone shade
  • Lights – Shimmer – Light-medium peach with golden shimmer
  • Hotline – Shimmer – Mid-tone copper
  • Turned On – Shimmer – Medium peachy-pink
  • Psyched – Shimmer – Medium reddish-brown
  • Rock Stars – Shimmer – Rich plum
  • Stare – Shimmer – Deep brown

Overall these palettes have really impressed me. I love the size and how travel friendly they are. Eight shades for £24.00 is a fab price point. The quality of the shadows are great too, you get an intense colour payoff with high pigmentation. I think Smashbox have done an amazing job on the colour arrangements in both palettes.

Have you tried out any of the Cover Shot palettes?
