Winter Skincare Heroes

Dry patches, flaking, redness. There is no denying it, the Winter weather is not our skins friend. It dries us out and leaves our complexions somewhat dull and lacklustre. Dried out prune comes to mind with my skin at the moment! Not pretty. Being someone who has always had an oiler skin-type it hasn’t been as straight forward as I’d like to have found my selection of skincare saviours to bring my skin back to life. After some trail and error I feel now that I have managed to gather a fairly good range of skincare products that hydrate, nourish and restore brightness and above all, harmony to my skin. My Winter skincare heroes if you will.

My current saviours include:

The Ordinary Glycolic Acid

First things first, before layering up on products to replenish dried out skin, the skin should be exfoliated. To achieve maximum benefits from the products we layer on top of our skin we should ensure all dead skin cells have been exfoliated away. The Ordinary Glycolic Acid toning solution exfoliates the skin using an alpha hydroxyl acid. A few drops on a cotton pad swept over my face leaves me with a clear canvas to work with and achieve maximum hydration from my products.

Kiehls Ultra Cream

One of my more recent discoveries after reading many, many great things. This has very quickly became a firm favourite of mine and I used it on a daily basis. I have noticed my skin looking and feeling so much healthier and nourished since I began using it. It’s just the right consistency for me to use every morning and night to get a much-needed hit of hydration. With its lightweight texture it is easily absorbed into the skin to reveal a brighter, healthier complexion. I might have been late to the party on this one but I can say with a degree of certainty that this is one product which is here to stay.

Nuxe Reve De Miel Lip Balm

I suffer with dry chapped lips at the best of times, but in Winter they’re on a whole other level of horrendous! Not only that I have an awful habit of picking off the dry, flaking skin making matters worse, I know, I know, I’m gross! The one lip balm that never ever fails me is my little jar of magic, Nuxe Reve De Miel. I do try other lip products out but I always come back to my old faithful. It repairs and hydrates my lips restoring my moisture levels and ridding them of the nasty flakiness.

It is a honey based formula to deliver deep hydration and to nourish the lips. Other hero ingredients include vitamin E, shea butter, almond oil and plant oils making it a powerhouse of moisture. I couldn’t be without it.

Tarte Maracuja Face Oil

What would a post like this be without an oil in the mix. This oil has been cold-pressed from maracuja fruit, which is naturally rich in vitamin C and essential fatty acids to brighten, nourish and protect. I am a lover of face oils and feel that they restore balance to the skin. Balance has never been more important than at this time of year. I find this oil to be one of the richest and nourishing oils I own which is why I reach for it more at this time of year than ever.

Estee Lauder Advance Night Repair Serum

A long-standing favourite which has been part of my skincare regime for years. Without bordering on dramatic I honestly don’t think I could be without this. I use this serum every night without fail as part of my evening routine. It works while you rest to restore and renew the skin and to repair any damage caused by the elements and day-to-day life, it also protects against signs of ageing too. This might very well be my favourite skincare product I own, it has been one of my most consistent products to be continuously included in my regime.

Glossier Super Bounce Serum

My daytime godsend. Fully loaded with cult and highly coveted ingredient hyaluronic acid this serum delivers intense hydration deep into the layers of the skin. Hyaluronic acid is able to hold vast amounts of moisture and allow it to be retained within our skin to give it a more plumped appearance. A must for me at this time year especially.

Fresh Vitamin Nectar Mask

A powerhouse of vitamin C and all natural ingredients, this mask is a dull skins BFF! It is the only mask I reach for on the days when my Winter ravaged skin is in need of a pick me up. My skin goes from grumpy to glowing in one fell swoop, this mask has never failed me. It’s hard to know whether you’re looking into a jar of marmalade, or whether it is actually for your skin. Believe me when I tell you this product works wonders on lacklustre complexions. If you’re in the market for a brightening mask, look no further.

Glamglow Thirstymud

I use my Glamglow Thirstymud between 2/3 times a week to give my skin a boost of hydration, I tend to layer on and leave it overnight. By morning my skin looks fresh, bright and plumped. I’m a big fan of this mask. I always decant it into a travel jar to use when I fly and it keeps my skin hydrated for the duration of the flight. It’s like a little drink for my skin, not to mention it smells incredible!! Like my very own tropical paradise in a jar.

  15. Winters take a toll on our skin. The most affected part of the body is the face. The onslaught of the winds, cold temperatures, harsh sun rays and imbalanced pH make the skin appear dull, dark and dry during winters. These are very common winter skin problems that women struggle with.

  16. Fab list here – I always struggle with such dry skin in the winter, cannot wait for the warmer months to roll round! x
