PMD Personal Microderm Review – Is It Worth It and Do You Need One?

(Features press samples and affiliate links)

Wouldn’t it be wonderful to be able to treat ourselves to a professional facial each week? I would move into the spa if I could afford it. It is without a doubt one of my favourite places to visit. As lovely as a weekly spa trip would be, for most of us it isn’t practical. However, something more realistic which offers a spa-like facial at home is the PMD Microdermabrasion Device*. You can achieve the same great results from using this device as you would from a spa. I’ve been putting the PMD Microderm Device to the test to see if it’s worth buying.

What is microdermabrasion?

The principle behind microdermabrasion is essentially to break-up and remove dead skin cells that can cause our complexions to look a little dull. In doing this you are allowing healthier cell turnover whilst promoting collagen production. It can help with excess oil and enlarged pore whilst evening out texture and skin tone too. I am a huge fan of microdermabrasion treatments and I can see a noticeable difference in my overall complexion after every treatment. If we don’t exfoliate on a regular basis (which I am sometimes guilty of myself) dead skin cells build up on the surface of the skin. Cleansing alone won’t remove the build-up and in turn, our skincare products are not properly absorbed. The idea of old, dead skin (*gag*) chilling there on my face kinda creeps me out a little bit.

Having never tried an at-home microdermabrasion device, my inner skincare junkie was super excited to put this to the test.

What is included with the device?

So inside of the box you also get the obligatory user manual and instructions and it also comes with a DVD. Let’s be real here, who reads the instructions anyway? Tinkering for the right amount of time tends to make anything work eventually, right? Alongside that, you, of course, get the main attraction, the microdermabrasion device. It comes with an assortment of discs which you fit into the top before the treatment, the smaller discs are for your face, while the larger discs are for your body. You get both blue and green discs, the blue is for a lighter treatment and targeted towards more sensitive skin types and the green is more towards normal.

Before I let it loose on my face I tested it on the back of my hand. The disc spins around just under the clear cap, while the device itself acts as a vacuum to clear away the dead skin once the disc has lifted it. I’m not going to lie, it was a peculiar sensation to begin with, definitely not painful or uncomfortable in any way, just a little unusual initially.

Trying the PMD Microderm for the first time

I used it from the centre of my face working outwards and I never went over the same area more than twice. Purely because of the nature of this device, my skin did have some mild redness initially. Any redness soon went down to reveal a brightened appearance and visibly reduced pores. My skin felt baby-soft to the touch, any dry patches were gone. I was actually surprised by how much of a difference I could see from the first use.

My Thoughts and is it really worth it?

I use this on a weekly basis as recommended by PMD and I have to say I am really impressed with the results. My skin is notably brighter and more plumped, that may be because my products are more easily absorbed by having the dead skin cells removed. My pores remain consistently smaller and sometimes barely visible. FYI my pores are usually huge like I could stash my belongings in them huge!  Overall my skin looks and feels considerably healthier and brighter, I don’t have any texture at all and my skin tone is completely even.

For me this has worked really well, I have oily combination skin and I tend not to suffer any sensitivity. Personally, I don’t find the device to be harsh on the skin so I do feel this would be suitable for most skin types. I don’t suffer from any acne scarring so I can’t offer a personal opinion, but this device is said to really help with reducing the appearance of scarring on the face too.

I hope you enjoyed my PMD Personal Microderm Review and found it helpful.

Have you ever tried any at-home facial alternatives like this? I’d love to know.

I have also reviewed the PMD Clean device if you’d like to check that out.

  14. very informative post .There is a long list of skin issues that can be treated with Microdermabrasion Treatment in Dubai. These include fines lines and wrinkles which are the early signs of aging, hyperpigmentation issues caused by the sun damage and scars of various kinds. It also helps in countering the skin laxity caused by loss of collagen in the skin.
