Don’t you just love stumbling upon quirky little finds. Well How Do You Do is most definitely that! Taking its inspiration from Disney’s Alice In Wonderland with its mismatched, haphazard interior decor paired with oversized furniture to make even the tallest of us feel as though we had shrunk down just like Alice. From the outside you’d never guess such charm and character lay within.
At one of the two entrances you are greeted by two life-sized playing cards before heading into the weird and wonderful restaurant. You can dine on a variety of cuisine from classic fish and chips, burgers, pies, steaks, Sunday lunch and grazing boards to name but a few. The main attraction and star of the show has to be their Mad Hatters Afternoon Tea!
How Do You Do invite you to “Tumble Down The Rabbit Hole” and join in with the madness while they serve up:
Freshly baked scones, choose from fruit, cherry, chocolate chip or cheese, they are served with jam and Chantilly cream.
Northumbrian ham and pease pudding finger sandwiches
Cream cheese and cucumber finger sandwiches
Pink Flamingo Lemonade “Drink Me” Bottles
Queen Of Hearts Victoria Sponge Cake
Chocolate Flower Plant Pots
Rose Water Flapjacks
Eton Mess
Swirly Lolly Pop
You’re also able to add your choice of either a glass of prosecco or a strawberry gin cocktail if you really want to indulge (charges apply). There are none alcoholic options available or alternatively you could opt for a charming pot of tea or coffee in one of their many unique china teapots.
*Vegetarian alternatives available.
All of this based on Afternoon Tea for two is priced at £25.95, during the week they have a reduced price in place.
I visited with my Mum when we were in search of somewhere for lunch and we couldn’t have found a better spot. It was here that I finally tried the Northern delicacy that is ham and pease pudding sandwiches, yes I have managed to go almost 30 years without trying them, and I call myself a Geordie!! We both had a fab afternoon and everything tasted incredible, the scones and cakes were all homemade, the Alice and Wonderland theme throughout give it such a fun and quirky feel. We’ll definitely be returning! I might even go as far as to say that this might have been my favourite afternoon tea of anywhere I’ve tried.
If you’re from the North East of England or perhaps visiting I would definitely recommend adding this to your list of places to go! You won’t be disappointed.
