The real beauty with makeup is that anything goes, there are no boundaries or rules, you are free to be as creative as you like. Anyone can wear makeup and it’s full of endless possibilities as to where you can go with it. With that of course comes the sporadic beauty trends, some will come to pass when the novelty wears off, or just because they’re not that great. We’ve had the age of newly developed beauty sponges that give us that airbrushed finish, we’ve had the silicone makeup applicator which I’ve not personally tried, I’ve witnessed people use house hold items to apply makeup, with cutlery proving popular for contouring.
The single most weird and disturbing thing used to apply base makeup has got to be a girl I saw (in a video shared on social media) using… are you ready for this, her boyfriends ball sack to pounce the foundation into her face… needless to say that wasn’t a trend that caught on! So it’s fair to say in beauty we’ve seen it all.
One trend that came and changed the way we apply makeup forever was none other than the much-loved cult Beauty Blender*. I know you’re all nodding along on this one. Now we can all achieve an airbrushed complexion all at the pounce of a sponge! Who’d have known! Well Beauty Blender clearly and oh how they’ve changed the makeup application game forever!
Before the Beauty Blender I would apply my base with a dense kabuki brush which had a fairly flat top so I could stipple it to achieve an even coverage. I’d then take your typical makeup sponge at that point (shaped a little like a wedge of cheese) and go over areas I wanted to blend better by patting into my skin, much like we do the Beauty Blender. So all in all I wasn’t too far of at that point myself.
When Beauty Blender first launched and we were advised to use it wet, I just couldn’t get my head around the concept of using a damp sponge to apply makeup, the notion seemed so foreign to me. But after accepting that so many people couldn’t be wrong I bought one and went ahead and tried it myself. Oh. My. DAYS!! My beauty routine was forever changed! I couldn’t get over how perfectly flawless my foundation looked, it had never looked so good! That was it, I was sold! I’ve never looked back since!
Naturally since the birth of the Beauty Blender there are now an abundance of similar looking beauty sponges all designed to do the same thing. I have dabbled and tried others, some I’ve found to work well, others not so much. Regardless of how many I try or even like, I have yet to feel the way about them that I do the Beauty Blender, the original, the real McCoy, for me it’s the winner hands down and it is my belief that all beauty lovers should own one.
What is your favourite beauty tool that never lets you down?

I used a Beauty Blender for the first time on my wedding day, I was a bit nervous as I didn’t get how it could provide such great coverage but it was amazing, and now I’m a complete convert! These are beautiful photos!

I completely agree that makeup sponges are the way forward when it comes to foundation! I could never get my head round the ‘wet’ thing either it took me months to try it but now if I forget to wet it and try to use it dry I can’t do it, it’s so much better when you dampen the sponge as silly as it sounds! I’ve never tried the original beauty blender but I love the Real Techniques sponges they’re so good that I’ve never felt the need to try any other brand!

I’ve never tried an original beauty blender – I might invest one day to see how it compares! Plus you can never have too many!

I’d be lost without Beautyblenders now too! They’re so good, although I’m really crap at washing them – I need to do it more often.

The OG Beauty Blender will always be my fave, and it’s SO good when it’s used damp xx
I think I might invest in the original!
I had a sponge from H&M a couple of years ago and it was the BEST sponge I’ve ever tried but they changed the sponge when I went to get a replacement I was gutted. I’ve never tried a beauty blender for the price but I really want to. My daughter tends to try and bite sponges at the moment. One day, I’ll have that pink dream.
Ever since discovering this I literally stopping buying foundation brushes , it’s so good and deserves the hype 100% x
Beauty Blenders never get old, they’re a make up tool staple x

I absolutely love Beauty Blenders! I have a black, pink and the mini ones. Couldn’t be without them xxx
I’m the same, since I first used the beauty blender I never looked back either! It revolutionized my makeup, I know that sounds dramatic but I could literally never get my foundation to look good before I found the beauty blender.

Before I knew of other options availabe, the BB was my go-to. However, it’s $18 where I’m from and just a bit to pricy for me. Now I use the Real Techniques beauty sponge and it gets the job done, but nothing works quite like the beauty blender! Great post thank you for sharing.
