With so many beauty products and treatments on the market, it’s hard not to get drawn in by them. Some are faddy and come to pass, some not so much. One, in particular, that has been a bugbear for so many of us. Unwanted hair and how to deal with it. With many options available, and with varying price tags it isn’t easy to know which is the best one for us.
Ok, so the options.
Shaving. Cheap and handy, no pain generally unless the dreaded shaving cuts strike. Probably one of the most popular options, but not long-lasting so a bit annoying.
Waxing/Epilating. Another popular option can be very painful but it does last a good bit longer than shaving.
Both not bad options but wouldn’t it be nice to not have to worry about removing that unwanted fuzz for longer than a couple of weeks at a time. I personally hate shaving, it’s a necessary evil and I often go too long between shaves and begin to resemble a monkey! Not pretty!
You do of course have other options for a more permanent hair-free body but with that comes a higher price tag. I’ve been trialling a device that achieves hair removal for a while now and I’m here to give you my honest opinion and tell you whether I feel it is worth it.
Well spoiler, again. It is worth it, let me tell you why.
I give you the SmoothSkin Muse* IPL hair removal device.
How Does It Work?
The SmoothSkin Muse is a smart yet powerful IPL (Intense pulsed light) Hair removal device you can use safely at home. IPL technology for hair removal uses the energy of light to break the growth cycle of hair, and prevent regrowth. It offers long-lasting results, in a pain-free way. It’s the first high power IPL device to give unlimited flashes, so there’s no doubt you’ll get endless smooth results. The device is safe for both face and body hair removal.
SmoothSkin Muse scans your skin before each flash and automatically selects the light intensity best suited to your unique skin tone – maximising your results, safely. As with all at-home IPL systems, you’ll need regular top-up treatments to stay hair-free once you complete your initial regime. SmoothSkin Muse’s extra power stunts regrowth, so you can go longer between sessions.
How Do You Use The Device?
Ok, so this struck me as a little odd but hear me out. After completing a patch test you are ready to go, let’s say we’re going with the legs on this occasion. Firstly you must make sure the area you use the device on is completely hair-free, please tell me I’m not alone in finding that odd? Trusting SmoothSkin know more than I do on the matter I followed their instructions. The lamp is placed at the bottom of the device and you place it directly over the skin, I moved the device up my legs in sections until I reached where I first started. It is comfortable and easy to use, one thing I will say is that the flash is super bright so maybe put your shades on, seriously.
For best results repeat this process once a week for 12 weeks, by this time you should be hair-free and ready to throw away your razors! It is completely dependant on the user but I found that once I reached the 12-week point, I would only need to repeat the process roughly every 6 weeks.
Is It Worth It?
With a price tag of £399 is definitely isn’t cheap. What you need to consider is that you would pay £399 once and treat your hair for one cycle of 12 weeks, followed by further repetitions say a handful of times a year thereafter. This cutting the cost entirely for razors, shaving foam, waxes, etc and over time I’m sure you’d spend more than £399 in the long run. I 100% think that it is worth it as a one-off payment for a lifetime of being hair-free. At the end of the day, as with anything in life, a purchase is only worth what you’re willing to pay. I personally can’t recommend this enough. I have sensitive skin and shaving can be a real nuisance for me, this way I don’t encounter those problems.
My Thoughts & Results
I followed the instructions and used as suggested. The device worked well for me and didn’t irritate my annoyingly sensitive skin, hurrah! After around the week 4/5 treatment, I began seeing a notable result, some patches where my hair was lighter were entirely removed. The ones that weren’t took longer to grow back in. With every weekly repetition, I saw similar changes, week on week less hair would come through. By around week 9 I almost didn’t feel the need to keep up weekly uses as my hair regrowth had all but stopped. I did continue as recommended to week 12, after that I find that I only need to use the device once every 5 weeks or so.

How do you deal with unwanted hair? Have you tried IPL before?
I have also reviewed the Smoothskin Bare device too, you can find that here.

Sounds like it worked really great for you. I hate the chore of shaving and would love to remove the hair permanently but that price point is definitely out of my price range, It does sound worth the money though if you can afford it. 🙂

Wow! I’m amazed at the results you’ve mentioned. I bought a no-no once and honestly, it didn’t do anything? This price is pretty high but if you see long lasting results then I think it’s worth it. I absolutely despise shaving my legs!
