Cuticura Mildly Medicated Dry Skin Cream

I’ve suffered from eczema for years, and as time passes I find it getting worse. I used to suffer more during the winter months, but now it’s constant. My worst affected areas are without a doubt my hands. This isn’t helped by my overactive bladder and mild OCD with hand washing. It’s a rarity to find me without dry, cracked and sore hands. They often bleed if I go too long without applying moisturiser. I have tubes everywhere. All over the house, in my car, in my desk at work, you name it they’re there.

It’s fair to say that my troublesome hands have led me on a never-ending quest for the perfect hand cream. I’ve tried countless brands and products. Some have been incredible, some not so much. I can coat my hands in a thick layer of cream before putting cotton gloves on to sleep in and see very little difference. It’s weird that some nights they just don’t seem to respond well, while others they drink it up and look so much better.

Banish dry, flaky skin, fast.

I’ve recently been trialling a hand cream which I’ve not previously used. I was advised this would be ideal for me and guaranteed to make a difference. Sceptical, but willing to take a chance as I had nothing to lose I gave it a go. The hand cream in question is Cuticura Mildly Medicated Dry Skin Cream*.

I received the 50ml tube and I initially thought it wouldn’t last me two minutes. As it turns out I couldn’t have been more wrong.. The cream is a thick consistency and a little goes a very long way.

Powered by a Triple Action Complex, it contains a potent mix of ingredients renowned for soothing, moisturising and helping to restore the skin back to the best it can be when prone to extreme dryness and discomfort. Also, suitable for eczema-prone skin. It is actually ideal for eczema-prone skin. It has worked wonders for me.

What’s In It?

Allantoin

Allantoin is found naturally in the root of the comfrey herb, known for its non-irritating and skin-soothing properties. It’s believed to help naturally protect and heal; promoting healthy skin.

Aloe Vera

As well as being packed full of vitamins, Aloe Vera is also known for its natural skin hydrating and soothing properties. It offers immediate relief and reduces skin irritation, so perfect for itchy problem skin.

Avocado Oil

Rich in omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins and antioxidants, Avocado Oil helps to hydrate and moisturise the skin and is reported to aid the healing of irritation and problem dry skin.

Coconut Oil

Known to contain Vitamin E and essential amino acids that help maintain skin health, Coconut Oil is a great natural moisturiser and is believed to protect the skin from harmful bacteria.

Glycerin

Glycerin helps the skin to maintain moisture, creating a barrier that is believed to help protect the skin from irritation and enhance the absorption of other ingredients and their benefits.

Petrolatum

Originally discovered in 1859, Petrolatum has long been used in skincare for its healing properties, it also helps to prevent skin from drying out by locking in moisture.

Shea Butter

Extracted from the nut of an African Shea tree, Shea Butter has naturally high emolliency properties that help to soften and smooth dry and rough skin, restoring it back to its best.

Zinc Oxide

Boasting a wealth of skin health benefits Zinc Oxide is naturally derived and best known for its antibacterial properties, it helps to soothe, calm and prevent discomfort for very dry problem skin.

Does it work?

This is what we really wanna know right? Well, in short, yes, yes it does and let me tell you why. It coats my hands in a reasonably thick layer, depending on the amount applied. It forms a protective barrier on the skin and gives an instant soothing feeling. It really gets to work on my drier patches around my knuckles and between my fingers leaving them looking and feeling so much better. The flaky, dry and broken skin is visibly improved even after a single-use.

At bedtime, I like to layer my hands with a generous helping of this and put my cotton gloves on. It’s like I have different hands when I wake up. This is ideal for my eczema-prone, dry and flaky skin. I feel for anyone who also suffers from eczema or drier hands this would be perfect. It comes in a 50ml and 200ml so great for popping into a handbag or for on the go. It might be too much for someone looking for a regular moisturiser with it being so thick.

I would absolutely recommend this, it has made a world of difference to my hands when I was dubious to begin with. I plan to continually repurchase this once I finish this tube. I’ve been using it for a couple of months now and it’s still going.
