There’s a lot of celebrity hype around Ouai Haircare and I’d be lying if I told you I wasn’t intrigued to see what all the fuss was about. A lot of my regular beauty YouTubers I watch, use and rave about the brand, as do many well know influential celebrities. I always knew at some point I’d get round to trying it myself, admittedly I do feel a little late to the party, but hey, better late than never right?!
Ouai is the brain child of hair stylist Jen Atkin. Starting out as a stylist in Hollywood it wasn’t long before Jen began working with some of the most influential stars, including the Kardashians/Jenner’s, Katy Perry, Jessica Alba, J-Lo, Gigi & Bella Hadid, and Chrissy Teigen to name but a few. Jen has a huge social media following herself and the New York Times have hailed her “The Most Influential Hairstylist in the World”. So it’s fair to say that Jen is doing incredible.
She used her new-found status and her own influence along with that of her loyal clientele and she created Ouai. In my opinion Ouai is a very forward thinking, relevant and modern brand, bringing us new concepts in hair care. The range is extensive and is made up of mostly styling products as you’d expect. Recently I’ve been trying out four products from her range and I have some thoughts I’d like to share.
Dry Shampoo Foam*
I’d had my eye on this for so long, so many people I follow and watch on YouTube raved about this and I was intrigued to try it for myself. I absolutely love dry shampoo! I don’t know how I ever managed without it in truth. Generally a dry shampoo is a formula you spray into your hair so the idea of taking a damp mousse to place in my roots to absorb the oil did seem a little foreign to me. But who am I to question Jen and so many others, right?
I was definitely right in thinking the concept was a little odd, it definitely felt weird to dispense the product into the palm of my hand to then coat my hair which was already feeling a little less than fresh at this point. It initially felt damp as I placed the foam into my hair but it soon dried and had a slightly powdery feel to it. I could really see and feel the difference and my hair looked considerably fresher, I’d be more than happy to wear it down for the day having used this. One big thing I love about this over a typical spray powder is that you don’t get the awful dusty mess that coats everything in the room. That’s one thing I really hate about a dry shampoo so for me this one is perfect to combat that. I also really like the simple, clean and fresh packaging, sometimes less is more and in this case it couldn’t be more true.
So yeah, overall I do really like this product and I will continue to use and most likely repurchase too. I’ve had a positive experience using the dry shampoo foam and from that I would be more than happy to recommend it to others.
Smooth Spray*
I’m just gonna be honest right off the bat and say I absolutely love this!! It leaves my hair so soft and smooth with the most beautiful shine. It feels so healthy and nourished! One thing that I’m not so crazy about is the smell, it does have a bit of a weird scent, I really wouldn’t know how to describe it other than to say it isn’t ideally what you want freshly washed hair to smell like. That aside I can’t fault this product.
Designed to hydrate, aid with detangling and offer heat protection this smooth spray is a one stop shop for all haircare needs. It makes for the perfect travel companion as you only need this is all-in-one leave in treatment. Enriched with amino acids, vitamin e, and strengthening proteins this will leave your locks sleek and smooth, but most importantly frizz-free.
Since getting this I’ve not touched another leave-in treatment, the difference to my hair is remarkable and I for one will most definitely be repurchasing. If you’re in the market for a new product to add into your haircare routine, or maybe your locks need some extra oomph, I honesty can’t recommend this product enough.
Texturizing Hair Spray*
Sort of a dry shampoo, sort of a hairspray but not quite, this hybrid spray will give you that gorgeous, textured just of bed look so many of us know and love. Easy and effortless this does all of the work for you, bonus! With just a few spritz’s you get that sought after rough and ready style with plenty of grit and texture to tease and tousle until your heart’s content.
Enriched with Ouai’s ‘Smart Technology’ – a cocktail of nourishing ingredients including amino acids, tamarind seed, keratin, ama oil, hibiscus and jasmine to strengthen, enhance moisture levels, repair and protect from humidity – this refreshes, volumises and perfumes your strands with the delicate scents of Italian bergamot, rose, lily of the valley, waterlily, iris and white musk.
I have to admit to not to being too au fait when it comes to hair styles, I tend to go straight or curled. After curling my hair I did use this spray and I did find it made my curls last longer than without. I have long hair and I often find the weight of it will make curls or waves drop out pretty quickly so it was good to have them stay in place for longer.
Memory Mist*
Created with a formula of advanced memory polymer technology this mist is designed to “remember” your carefully crafted hair styles. This powerful yet utterly weightless spray means your hair will need less retouching or restyling and will ultimately suffer less damage. You can lock in any styles and prolong the wear until your next shampoo with this product in your arsenal. It is as simple as a few spritz’s onto damp hair, style as normal and voila! A long-lasting hair style you don’t have to continually redo!
I’ve been enjoying using this product, I’m not particularly adventurous or skilled in the hair department but when I have used this I have found it to do exactly as it claims. The perfect partner for those tousled, beach waves that stay in place!
This is my first time using Ouai hair care products and I’ve had a really positive experience and would not hesitate in buying more. For me, my stand out hero product has got to be the Smooth Spray.

The dry shampoo sounds interesting! I cannot live without dry shampoo, and a foam sounds weird but your results sound worth it.

I’m pretty terrible when it comes to hair products. I don’t really use any products other than shampoo & conditioner. I should probably do more as these products sound really great.
I’ve used a lot of their products. They’re really worth the hype to me.
