Introducing a New Brand into My Life: Fenty Beauty

I feel like I’m seriously late to the Fenty Beauty party! But what is important is that I am here now, and oh what a party it is! I could have gone CRAZY with this range, but after watching many YouTube videos and reading countless reviews I narrowed my selection down to a respectable five items. Two of which came as part of a mini duo set, so technically four separate purchases overall which is very restrained if you ask me.

As I ordered online due to my closest counter being over two hours are I chose products that I didn’t feel I’d need to test in-store to colour match. I did have my heart set on one of the foundations but with that huge shade range, I daren’t guess my colour! Just you wait till I do eventually get my butt along to a concession! Goodbye money, hello all of the Fenty Beauty! And to think I wasn’t expecting to be a big fan of this line! I’m not really sure why?

“Fenty Beauty is very skin orientated with most products being heavily focused on this area”

Before I continue with my rambling, can we all just take a moment to put our hands together and show our appreciation for Rihanna and her team for launching an incredible 40 shades of foundation! She is really setting the bar high for foundation launches. This is where brands have to be now, gone are the days you could get away with a 10 shade selection launch! Kudos guys! Not only that but the names of her products too, Trophy Wife might just be my favourite. It’s such a fab collection. I honestly can’t wait to see what future releases are in store.

Fenty Beauty is very skin orientated with most products being heavily focused on this area. I am so eager to try out the primer and foundation but with so many shades on offer, I wouldn’t trust buying blind. Usually, foundation shopping is easy as I’m generally one of the two lightest shades on offer, not with Fenty, I will still be around the lower end of the spectrum but exactly where is anyone’s guess.

So, let’s get stuck into my little Fenty Beauty stash!

Fenty Beauty Freestyle Highlighter Duo Lightening Dust Fire Crystal

Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter Duo – Lightning Dust & Fire Crystal

This is actually really big and it comes with two pans of highlight within one compact, one being more on the subtle side while the other intends to blind anyone who looks directly at it. They’re both stunning shades, but I wish for me personally that it was one bigger pan of the more intense shade as I won’t use the lighter one a great deal. Lightning Dust is the more subtle of the two and is a pale peachy pink shade with a soft pearlescent sheen.

My personal favourite is Fire Crystal, an intense peachy pink shade with a supercharged pearlescent shimmer. They both have a creamy, butter-like texture and the more intense shade has amazing colour payoff and pigmentation.

The softer highlight lends itself well to being used as a brow bone and inner corner highlight. Sometimes I take a large fluffy face brush and pick up some product to lights dust all over for a subtle, glow from within kind of look. I don’t want to feel like I’m wasting the product so I make sure I find a good use for it.

Shimmer Matchstix – Yacht Life

This is the most beautiful colour and I am so here for the name! Yacht Life is so fun and quirky like many of Rihanna’s product names. It is such a flattering shade for so many skin tones. It swatched so beautifully on the back of my hand when I first tried this so I assumed this would be the same on my face, unfortunately, this was not the case. I feel so frustrated with this product, it’s not just as easy to use as it should be.

Everything about it is gorgeous, I love the packaging and the colour of the product inside, I just wish the product were creamier and easier to apply. I had my foundation and cream products applied at the point I was ready to use this and I just found it so stiff and difficult to apply, the friction on my skin actually caused it to move around my base makeup and leave my cheeks patchy.

I have since found it much more successful to apply this to my face after first applying to my fingers and using them to place it on my skin. It’s such a shame it doesn’t work as well as it should because in theory it’s a great product and the colour gives me serious hearty eyes! I haven’t tried any other shades so I can’t say whether they’re all this way, or maybe mine was part of a minority?

Fenty Beauty Highlighter Matchstix Gloss Bomb

Invisimatte Blotting Powder

I am all about that matte life so I of course had to get this, I’m so glad that I did because I really love it. I use it every time I do my makeup and I always carry it in my bag to top up the matte on the go. It comes in a travel-friendly compact with a mirror and a sponge applicator. The packaging has been cleverly designed with a magnet concealed at the front where an equally well-designed brush can fit snuggly if you buy it. I haven’t bought it but I do love the idea of it joining together so neatly to make it the oily gals BFF!

Despite the product being as white as snow, it goes on in such a way that you can’t see it on the skin. No nasty flashback patches here! If you like the matte complexion or suffer from oily patches I would definitely recommend this for your makeup bag, or for on the go.

Bomb Baby Mini Lip & Face Kit – Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter – Hu$tla Baby

This might be my favourite purchase in this post. It is such a cute little duo and I actually wish that all the highlights were like this, and the whole pan was the more intense shade. Hu$tla Baby is a stunning champagne, a golden peach colour which is such a universal highlight to suit most skin tones. Despite being a mini I think the size is really decent. I’m a huge fan of the formula too, beautifully creamy with an intense colour payoff, my two main wishes of a highlight.

Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer

Let’s talk about the Gloss Bomb… OH EM GEEEEE!! I am actually in love with this product! Since I bought this, it is pretty much the only lip product I reach for when I do my makeup! No joke! It’s the most gorgeous, subtle shade! I either wear this alone or on top of a lipstick or lip liner and it works with any makeup look beautifully. It has a gorgeous and intense sheen with just the right amount of shimmer reflects in to allow it to remain subtle. If you like a gloss, you need to add this into your collection, honestly, you’ll not regret it! I have since bought a further two tubes as a backup, and a backup backup! I can’t ever be without this now.

So that rounds up my little collection of Fenty Beauty products and overall I am in love with them! I definitely made the right choices and I would 100% repurchase each item after it has run out. I have recently picked up a couple more items but have yet to fully try them, stay tuned for a post on that coming in the not too distant future.

  2. Great review! If you thought you were late to the Fenty Beauty party then don’t feel too bad… I’m still on my way there 😂 I keep meaning to invest in one of the foundations but just haven’t got round to it yet. I’m SO pale that most of the lightest shades around still look orange on me. I love the fact that FB have so many shade options. When I finally get around to buying one I think I’ll also get the Invisimatte Blotting Powder too – you’ve sold it to me, as a fellow oily gal! Beautiful photos too xx
