2020 My Goals For The New Year

Let me first start out by saying Happy New Year!! 2020 huh? A whole new year, a whole new DECADE! That’s pretty frightening to think how quickly it has come round.

I always feel both optimistic and a little deflated when a new year rolls around. Optimistic because it’s a new year, new things and new can be good. It’s exciting not knowing what’s in store. It is also a fresh year to achieve new goals.

Yet I feel a little flat after the high from Christmas time. It is, without a doubt, my favourite time of the year. I always feel sad when the festive season draws to a close. That said I trust it will be making an appearance again in no time at the rate times passes! So yeah, I’m currently stuck between feeling a little up and down.

That said, one thing I do love about a new year is a new planner. I really enjoy taking the time to sit down and outline some goals for the coming year. For the third year running, I’ve stayed loyal to Three Six Five and gone for their black and gold planner. I have a full post here if you’re in the market for a planner.

Ok, so my goals for 2020

Let’s start out with my personal goals before moving on to some blogging specific goals.

Save Save Save

This is an ongoing one for me and it will always be something I practice. Over the past couple of years, I’ve done well on the savings front and it is gradually altering how I spent money too. Having a pot of savings is vital and by doing so it takes away a lot of money-related anxiety I’ve previously experienced.

As a homeowner, a car owner and a pet owner to name but a few unexpected costs can occur at any time. I like to know I have funds there to cover these kinds of things. I also like the option to add a new bag to my collection should the mood take me. The top and bottom are that we need savings. My goal is to continue to grown my savings and be more mindful of my spending habits.

Achieve That Clutter-Free Life

Now generally speaking being clutter-free is not something that comes easily to me. Typically I like to buy things, a lot of things and often I don’t need them. I have a lot of everything and I’m trying hard to change this. I started out the year by taking over 10 full bags to a charity shop so I’ve sort of hit the ground running on this one. I’ve got to ensure I keep it up and achieve this throughout the year. I’m definitely in a better place and adapting to the decluttering mentality easier than I have previously.

My aim is to live a far more minimal life and not have excessive amounts of things. I will have to be as ruthless as I can be when it comes to clearing my things. So far so good though.

Maintain My Healthier Lifestyle

This one worked out really well for me last year, better than I’d expected it would. The last few months, however, I’ve not been able to get to my gym and train as I’d like too. Before I started my training I had a pre-existing hiatus hernia which all of my training had exacerbated. It has got the point now it’s worsened so much so it has made my asthma a real problem. I’m lucky if I can get to do a brisk walk with the dog without getting all chesty and struggling with it.

It’s all in hand and I’m waiting on a date for surgery to correct this. But said surgery has a lot of downtime after. So I need to try and work fitness back into my life in a way that won’t make me worse in the interim period. Honestly, I’m not too sure how I will manage this, it’s going to be a case of trial and error till I find something that works. The healthier eating will be welcomed after all of the junk I’ve had over Christmas!

Make Better Choices

I guess there’s a couple of elements this one. In making better choices I must try to be more decisive and not waste time deliberating over minor things. I do this a lot and I’m tired of how difficult I make it on myself. So that’s one aspect of making better choices.

The second and arguably more important is to make better choices ethically. I already do pretty well in some areas but I want to continue to do so. By this I mean I want to make my own carbon footprint as minimal as I can. Be as green as I can. I recycle as much as I can, I always carry reusable bags with me and minimise on plastic anything really.

As I encourage a more minimal life I want to really consider what I purchase too. Moving forward I want to buy things because I need them because I can use them and I can get continued use out of them. This will mean stepping away from buying current and trendy things, fast fashion I guess. This is an important one for me and I’m thinking of making a full post out of what I do moving forward and the changes that can be made.

Blogging Goals

Now let’s move onto my blogging goals or plans for 2020.

2019 saw me take a very much unplanned step back and I’m not entirely sure why. I became a lot quieter on social media and my posting blog content became few and far between. This year I want to throw myself back into my blog I’ve worked hard on. I love to sit down and write so moving into 2020 this is something I’m going to make more time for.

One thing I find a struggle is life balance. I work full time, try to get to the gym three times a week and maintain a social life while keeping the home in good order too. I find this all can be a lot to manage in a week and I found by adding in the gym, blogging sort of took a back seat. As I’m not able to train I’m going to take the opportunity to get back into blogging. Moving forward I must strive to achieve a better balance in life so I can do everything without any areas suffering.

Really my only goal when it comes to blogging is to actually ensure I actually do it and get more content shared. Become more active on social media again, granted this is a downfall because I despise the negativity and bitching I see. One thing I will be getting more acquainted with is the mute and unfollow buttons to curate a more pleasant timeline.

That pretty much wraps up my 2020 goal, have you set any for yourself?
