For The Love Of Lip Balms

I have been a huge advocate of all things lip balm, lipstick, lip gloss, you name it for many, many years, so many that I can’t remember if I’m honest! My lip journey has progressed from the early years of never having a high shine pearl glitter gloss off my lips from the age of around 14-15, up to now where I prefer a luxurious, nourishing lip balm.

I do still love lipsticks and glosses of course, but my everyday lip wear is without a doubt lip balm. I’ve come to find some incredible products on my way, some more recently, others are long-standing favourites and they all bring a little something different to the party.

Something I want to put out there before getting onto the products themselves is that I suffer with horrendously dry lips at times. I have the worst habit of picking the skin off them when they’re dry causing them to be very sore. This makes me quite critical of lip balms as I seek something quite thick and heavy to really deliver the hydration and nourishment my lips crave.

I will of course be honest in telling you how these products worked for me, but please bear in mind my needs might be completely different to yours so the results might differ. It really all comes down to personal preference and that’s really why some worked better for me and my needs than others.

Nuxe Reve de Miel

This is my long-standing, ride or die, never lets me down lip balm. I’ve mentioned this in other posts and for good reason. It’s so soothing and gentle on my lips it really helps to repair any damage and chapping. Created using honey, she’s butter and plant oils it is incredibly nourishing to the lips and it has never failed me. I honestly can’t speak highly enough of this product or recommend it to anyone who like myself loves lip balm.

Jo Malone English Mint & Ginger Lip Care

Once again, Jo Malone have delivered! Despite this being a newly launched product, that hasn’t stopped me falling in love with it. It’s quickly becoming a firm favourite with me and worth every penny of its £20 price tag. Don’t let the scent combination put you off, I wasn’t sure how I felt about the idea of it at first, but it just works. If there’s one thing Jo Malone do well, it’s create incredible fragrance combinations and this is no different.

It is quite a thick consistency and a little goes such a long way, it is incredibly long-wearing on the lips too. I never need to reapply more than three times maximum a day when I use this. If you’re looking for a nourishing lip balm I can’t recommend this enough. I for one will continue to repurchase time and time again.

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Intensive Lip Repair Balm

I’m sorry to say that for me personally I didn’t enjoy this one as much as I had hoped or expected in truth. It is a lovely product and if my lips weren’t so terribly dry and cracked it would probably be ideal. I prefer a thicker consistency in a lip balm and I found this to be a little thinner than I tend to like. It didn’t last on my lips as long as some of my other lip products either.

I do believe it is a good product, however it just didn’t meet my specific needs which to be fair probably aren’t a lot of people’s. I have heard a lot of great things about this so please don’t let me put you off. I can’t stress how critical I am of lip balms and how picky I am when deciding whether or not I love it.

Clinique Pep Start Pout Restoring Night Mask

This one has been a huge hit for me, I honestly love it and know I’ll continue to repurchase this as I near the end of each tube. I apply a layer to my lips as part of my evening routine and it works its magic while I sleep. The first time I used this my lips were in a sorry state, dried out and sore from picking, I couldn’t believe the difference this made in one night. They had such a dramatic improvement, of course they weren’t back to normal but I was shocked at how much this lip mask improved them.

Glossier Balm Dotcom

When I first got this I absolutely loved it and used so regularly my first tube seemed to go nowhere! Now onto my second, I do still really like this product and my main use for it is as a lip balm. With it being predominantly petroleum based I find that while it coats my lips and protects them it doesn’t overall heal them. It more or less acts as a barrier, a really great barrier from further damage, but it doesn’t heal any damage already there.

As I said I do use this still, somewhat less frequently now than in the past and more so when my lips aren’t in a dry and chapped state. It is really long wearing and there are some fab scents to choose from. So far I’ve tried the original, coconut and birthday cake which has a slight shimmer throughout. It is a great addition to my bag because it has so many uses and I will continue to carry it with me.

What are your go to lip saviours you can’t live without?

  1. I have just pulled out my Nuxe to use, and it has tiny bits of hard balm in it, that do eventually melt, but kind of like that hard bit of honey that gets crusty, and isn’t as smooth as I thought. Is it just because of the cold?

  2. My lips have been feeling horribly dry lately so I think I may pick one of these up for a try x

  6. These are all such high-end lip balms compared to what I’m so used to! I’m usually one to just grab a carmex or burts bees but I love how decadent and good for your lips these seem.

  12. I really like the sound of the night mask, it sounds like it does a fantastic job. I might think about adding that into my evening routine. At the moment I just use Vaseline lip balms so adding a night treatment in would be perfect. Thanks for the recommendations Mel and gorgeous photography 💖 xx

  17. I have used the Nuxe lip balm so many times and I totally agree with everything you said… it is so nourishing and I feel like it truly makes your lips hydrated for a long time even after it has worn off! I wanted to try the Elizabeth Arden one but I didn’t think it would last very long. I prefer to use the Elizabeth Arden Skin Protectant personally as a lip balm as it really helps to soothe my lips x

  19. I’m fairly picky with lip balm so I don’t like to do anything with petroleum. I used to use the Nuxe lip balm and I did like it, I recently got the same balm but the stick version of it, so I’ll see what that’s like!
