What To Watch on Disney Plus – 8 Of The Best Movies & Shows

FINALLY! The UK joined the rest of the world in having access to Disney Plus!! I feel like it’s been a long time coming. It was well-timed in that it coincided with the UK lockdown. Initially, I was unsure whether to subscribe or not? I can’t believe I am admitting to that. Hear me out. I own a lot of Disney, Marvel and Star Wars movies. What I don’t own I can access a lot of between Sky, Netflix and Amazon movies so I wondered if I needed another streaming service? I wondered how much content would be included for the small fee of £7.99 per month. As it happens, A LOT! I was really surprised to see so much content actually.

On paper Disney Plus was an absolute no brainer for me, it is home to my favourites, Disney, Marvel, Pixar, Star Wars. I can hardly believe that I questioned subscribing really. I’m so glad that I did as it has been so well used.

There’s a lot of exclusive content you can only access by subscribing and I’ve found some of this to be my favourite to watch.

The Imagineering Story

This could possibly be my favourite show I’ve watched on Disney Plus. It’s such a magical story taking you from the very first idea Walt Disney had right through to the Disney we know today. It walks us through the early days of Disney animation to the idea for the first park in LA. We follow Walt as he makes his dreams become a reality as he and his team set to work creating the first park, Disneyland California. The level of detail that goes into each park is staggering. There really is no place like Disney.

We watch on as they expand and build a further 6 Disney resorts with a multitude of theme parks, hotels, restaurants and shops. We also see them add Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars to their name. There are many ups and downs along the way. It really is a must-see series.

The Imagineering Story

The Mandalorian

This is one for the Star Wars fans. Follow The Mandalorian, a bounty hunter on his journey across the galaxy. The Mandalorian is set around 5 years after Star Wars VI Return Of The Jedi after the fall of The Empire. Disney has done a really incredible job with this and I was hooked from the outset. I couldn’t wait to see what happened next. It will definitely leave you hungry for more. I can’t wait to see what is next for The Mandalorian.

Marvel Cinematic Universe Movies

The Marvel franchise I’d have to say is my favourite. The movies are incredible and I love how they all interlink to tell one bigger story. Disney Plus has almost all of the movies available to watch. Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Avengers, Guardians Of The Galaxy, Captain Marvel, Antman, Black Panther and Dr Strange. If you’ve not watched them right through I cannot recommend them enough. Iron Man is a firm favourite of mine alongside The Guardians Of The Galaxy. Don’t forget to keep your eye peeled for Stan Lee’s cameo appearances throughout the movies.

Disney Fairytale Weddings

Until I watched this I had no idea that you could actually get married at a Disney park! I mean that’s the dream right?! Getting engaged at Disney is pretty spectacular, but to get married! It’s the ultimate dream, or at least I think so. Watch on as couples tie the knot in the magical surroundings of Disney parks. Every ceremony is as beautiful as the last and some even have special guests you might recognise.

The World According To Jeff Goldblum

Glance into the weird and wonderful and albeit quirky mind of Jeff Goldblum as we explore various worldly topics. Topics explored include sneakers, tattoos, coffee and cosmetics to name but a few. Each episode is around 25-30 minutes and takes an in-depth look into each subject through the eyes of Jeff Goldblum. There are definitely some fascinating things to learn along the way not to mention a lot of humour. Would you expect anything less from Mr Goldblum?

Decorating Disney Holiday Magic

Combining my two loves, Disney and Christmas this program gives us a rare glimpse of how Disney parks are transformed overnight. Yes, that’s right, I did say overnight. In the space of one night, the parks go from autumnal decor to Christmas and I still can’t quite understand how they do it. Whoopi Goldberg features to talk us through how Disney manages to pull this off. It’s a truly fascinating spectacle to behold and as someone who has never visited over Christmas, it was brilliant to see the parks for the holidays.

The Complete Star Wars Saga

With 9 movies in the saga plus two stand-alone movies to link everything together, you can fill a good portion of time up watching them all. On none other than May 4th Disney Plus added the latest film, The Rise Of Skywalker to the channel to complete this saga as we know it. The Star Wars movies are well revered and for good reason. If you’re new to Star Wars there’s a couple of ways to enjoy the films, either chronologically or in cinematic release order. If I could offer some advice I’d personally say to view in chronological order, as long as you don’t mind learning storylines sooner than originally intended. This is how I first viewed them and found them to be the best.

Chronological would be – The Phantom Menace, Attack Of The Clones, Revenge Of The Sith, Solo, Rogue One, A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, Return Of The Jedi, The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi and The Rise Of Skywalker.

Cinematic order is – A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, Return Of The Jedi, The Phantom Menace, Attack Of The Clones, Revenge Of The Sith, Solo, Rogue One, The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi and The Rise Of Skywalker.

Side note on Rogue One, whichever order you watch them in it is best to watch Rogue One right before A New Hope as when one film ends it leads right into the next.

Coco

I wasn’t too sure what to expect before watching but I had noticed a lot of great things being said about this film. Coco tells the heartwarming story of a young boy, Miguel who has a real passion for music. The only problem is due to some old family history before his time his family have banned music from their lives. As the Day of The Dead approaches, he finds himself on the other side where he meets members of his family who have passed. He discovers the reasons behind his family dislike for music while making some discoveries of his own. This film is definitely worth a watch and it’s guaranteed to leave you feeling all warm and fuzzy by the end.

I could go on and on listing virtually everything on Disney Plus but I wanted to highlight some key things to watch from each category. Despite wondering whether to actually subscribe at all I couldn’t be without it now. There is a long list of upcoming releases to the channel over the coming year or so. If you love Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and documentaries then this is for you. I don’t feel that £5.99 per month is a great deal considering what you get access to. Each account can have multiple profiles for family and friends to enjoy too.
