May Lifestyle, Home & Skincare Favourites

It’s that time again! Welcome to my May Favourites Lifestyle, Homewear and Skincare are what have been rocking my world for the past month.

Usually, May is such a busy month for us. It’s my birthday on the 12th and we always go away for a week in a timeshare lodge at Cameron House. Often for the bank holidays, we tend to visit my Dad in Scotland on top of that. This time around it was a little weird but the weather definitely helped us enjoy a lot more garden time. M&S cocktails and gin cans have been a real godsend let me tell you!

Similarly to April this month’s favourites are also pretty varied and include a lot more lifestyle than usual. I think this must be my 9th week on furlough and I’ve definitely found May a lot easier than April. The adjustment was a bit of a funny one and being someone that doesn’t like change it wasn’t exactly an overnight job.

I’ve found things that really help with my routine which I so crave and bring a structure to my life. Some things I’ve been meaning to get round to but somehow didn’t until now.

Being around the house more has also meant I’ve had a good rummage through my skincare products and rediscovered some greats loves.

So without any further rambling let’s jump in.

Glow Recipe Avocado Melt Retinol Eye Sleeping Mask

I adore the rich and creamy texture of this product. It warms between my fingertips to create the most luxurious cream. It is so nourishing to my delicate under-eye area with a noticeable improvement to the overall tone. It’s such a treat for the skin and by morning I always look well-rested even in the mornings I feel anything but. I’m such a big fan of Glow Recipe, they’re such a fun brand and I adore the cute and quirky packaging.

Plantastic Micropeeling Super Drops

Super drops are exactly what these are, let me tell you. If I get any signs of breakouts, inflammation or redness all is calmed with a single use of my super drops. I read the rave reviews and I was intrigued but I didn’t expect that they’d be as incredible as they are. I really couldn’t be without them in my skincare routine now that I’d tried them.

Dermalogica Dermal Clay Cleanser

This has been one of my saving grace’s when it comes to my unruly skin. The oil has gotten out of control and this really helps to settle things and bring balance back. Water-soluble Bentonite and Kaolin clays combine with purifying botanical extracts and refreshing Menthol to remove excess oils and refine the skin’s texture. I adore this product, it leaves my skin so thoroughly cleansed without it feeling stripped. With prolonged use, I really noticed my oil to be reduced and my skin considerably more balanced. I love the refreshing menthol infusion in this product, it’s the perfect way to wake my skin up in the morning.

Gucci Ace Embroidered Sneakers

These were a birthday gift from Jack and have been hidden away since we had a trip to Edinburgh in January! I feel like I’ve waited so long to enjoy them and now I have zero reasons to wear them. They’re a classic style that will work with so many outfit options. I love the minimalist design too. Clean, fresh and simple. There as so many designer footwear brands with really chunky and in your face trainers. They’re a really comfortable fit and feel on, they do run a little big so I had to size down. Honestly, I’m so excited to finally have them. Hopefully, it won’t be a whole lot longer till I can enjoy them properly.

Gucci Leather Wallet

This was also bought at the same time as the trainers and hidden away until my birthday came around. Similarly to the trainers, this purse is also a very classic and minimalist design. Beautiful black textured leather with simple GG gold hardware. A mini purse is my favourite and works best with my smaller crossbody bags. This I am already enjoying as I use and take my purse with me on a daily basis.

Artificial House Plants

I’ve seemingly developed something of an obsession with artificial house plants. I’ve tried time and time again to keep live ones and I just can’t do it. Not even with low key succulents and cacti despite surviving in harsh desert conditions, they can not survive my touch. Some artificial plants as so lifelike you’d never know! Asda has a great selection which is where the larger one is from.

The other cute succulent I have featured which is perfect in the kitchen is from Sainsbury’s. Sainsbury’s have a really great home department and they have so many variations of artificial plants.

Desenio Print

A framed print can really make such a difference when it comes to updating decor around the house. Desenio has such an incredible range of prints and frames available. My favourite is the simplistic illustrations using one continuous line to create the image. I’ll be adding more to our home in the shape of a gallery wall to go behind our sofa. It’s such a great and unique way to utilise wall space while creating something personal to match your home.

Reading

I’ve been threatening to read for such a long time and in truth, I’m not too sure why it took me so long. Being on furlough has given me the perfect opportunity to take advantage of all my free time. It’s a great way to give devices a rest and spare my eyes constantly looking at backlights. The books I’ve read have been recommendations I’ve come across from other bloggers who read regularly and book clubs. My favourite reads so far have been The Flat Share, this is a must if you enjoy a great fictional modern romance. I also read Blood Orange, a gripping thriller with some shocking twists. Finally, my third favourite was This Is Going To Hurt which was both hilarious and heartbreaking.

So that rounds up my May favourites. If you enjoy posts like this one you might also like my April Lockdown Favourites.

  1. Oooo Happy Birthday in advance! It must be a huge change with the virus in terms of birthdays, not being able to see family easily or get away, being on furlough… It does become the new normal after a while though, don’t you think? I’m finding it hard to think of it not being like this now, which is pretty scary!

I love clay cleansers. Just bought a new L’Oreal one but I wouldn’t mind trying the Dermalogica version, I hadn’t realised they did this one. I’ll have to add Blood Orange to my TBR. As for This Is Going To Hurt, that was so good! Glad you liked it. Are you planning on reading the next one, The Nightshift Before Christmas? I loved that one too, very similar but quite a short read in comparison.
