Autumn Home Decor – How To Style The Home For Autumn

It’s that time of year again. There’s a slight chill in the air and we watch as the trees turn gorgeous shades of red and orange. Crunchy fallen leaves blanket the streets and we enjoy more hot drinks than before. I love this time of year, I get a certain feeling that I only experience in autumn. Everything about the new season screams out cosy to me. Wrapping up in thick sweaters or snuggling up under a blanket for a movie night as candles flicker away. The scents are incredible at this time of year and I can’t get enough of pumpkin and clove spiced fragrances filling the home.

I make various changes to my lifestyle as I warmly welcome autumn. My wardrobe becomes much cosier with the arrival of knitwear, boots and coats. I begin to swap my lighter moisturisers for nourishing rich creams. For makeup, I go for warm rich tones and berry lips. My favourite change of all is around the home. I’m a real home bird and I love my homely setting. I’ve enjoyed adding autumnal touches around the home for a good few years now that I’ve amassed quite the array of pumpkins and autumn decor.

I love to see how others dress their homes for the new season so I thought I’d share my seasonal changes in this blog post. My Autumn Pinterest board is forever giving me new inspiration and ideas while I pin away.

Candles

This has to be my favourite throughout autumn and into winter. Candles filling the home with delicious sents give such a warm, homely feel. I get most of my autumnal candles from TK Maxx who often have an extensive collection at this time of year. I have a variety of pumpkin and apple spiced candles by DW Home that I love to burn around the house.

My personal favourite candles which are annoyingly tricky to come by in the UK are Bath and Body Works. I’ve got quite the stash I’m currently working through after stockpiling on my last two trips to Florida. I was also able to buy some candle accessories from B&BW while on my trip. I got two gold pedestal candle holders adorned with gold glittery pumpkins, a shorter holder with painted autumn leaves and a pumpkin wreath holder. They also had magnetic leaf and pumpkin candle lid toppers which I couldn’t resist either which I place on candles and around our log burning fire.

Home Accessories

It’s pumpkin galore when I bring out the storage box of autumnal homeware. I have a whole host of pumpkin ornaments in various colours and sizes I place around the house. Alongside the pumpkins, I also have a few freestanding signs that come out and a cute squirrel complete with a bushy tail. In addition to all of the above I also have the most beautiful wreath which is covered in pumpkins, leaves, berries and acorns, this was a great TK Maxx find.

Finally onto my accessories from Next they had artificial orange leaves and berries foliage in an orange vase which I thought was perfect for this season. From their kitchen department, they had a large ceramic pumpkin dish and the cutest salt and pepper shakers in an orange ceramic tray. My hot drinks are all services in either a pumpkin-shaped or a fox-shaped mug because why not?

As if that wasn’t cosy and autumnal enough I also throw in some fairy lights for good measure. Not just any fairy light; copper leaf fairy lights. For further good measure, I like to scatter artificial leaves, acorns, pinecones and conkers around the house in as decor for my glass vases. You can never have too much autumn, can you?

Soft Furnishings

When extra cosiness is a must I bring out the thick chunky knit throw to go over the bed and drape a blanket over the couches for movie nights. I have a matching pair of face clothes I bring out nearer Halloween that has Boo embroidered into them. I also have a few kitchen towels with pumpkins and leave on that I bring out alongside a matching oven mitt. The final touches in this section are for the dining table where I switch the table runner for a beautiful autumnal one adorned in hand-stitched leaves. I also have metallic orange placemats in the shape of fallen autumn leaves.

That pretty much wraps up my autumnal homeware changes. As mentioned most of my finds come from TK Maxx but I have noticed some really great finds on Amazon, Etsy and eBay too. I love that with every year we see more autumnal decor coming to shops in the UK.

I also have an Autumnal Homeware Haul post on my blog if you’re looking for more autumn decor inspiration.

  1. Love this! I have a wax melter that has leaves on it, so I love to use it during the autumn season. Then I’ve thrifted a few pumpkins and scarecrows for around my apartment, but nothing too crazy!
