Transitional Autumn Skincare Routine

Leaves are falling, Autumn’s calling.

Autumn is now upon us. There’s a slight chill in the air letting you know that colder weather is on its way. There’s just something ever so cosy about colder days and crunchy leaves, being curled up under blankets sipping hot drinks.

At this time of year, you fall into one of two camps. You either love autumn or you really don’t.

Of course, I fall into the first and I adore autumn, it just makes my heart happy. There is something about all four seasons I love but autumn is my favourite.

There’s something about autumn that gives me a certain feeling no other season does. I love the colours, the scents and flavours, the cosy feeling of putting on my favourite sweater and reaching for a blanket. At the earliest opportunity, I break out the pumpkin, leaves and autumnal decor and burn seasonal pumpkin scented candles like they’re going out of fashion.

The changes don’t stop there. As the weather cools my skin needs change with it. Typically oily combination I find my skin getting drier in certain areas. Somehow my skin manages to get even oilier at this time of year. I often wonder how that is even possible but here we are. My lighter products that are perfect through the summer months lose their effectiveness when the weather changes and central heating comes into play. Let me run you through the changes I make with my skincare routine as we transition into the new season.

Cleanser

I switch up the first stage of my skincare routine by opting for a more nourishing cleanser. I have quite an obsession at the moment with cleansing balms and I love how they nourish while they cleanse. I’m finding myself going between two or three cleansers at the moment. I love to use a balm as my first cleanse to really clean away the daily build-up and any makeup I have on. My current go-to is Beauty Pie Japanfusion Pure Transforming Cleanser and for my second cleanse I use Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser.

The Eyes

Ok, so I’m aware this might seem excessive to some people. One of my first changes is that I double up on eye cream. First I use an eye gel with hyaluronic acid in, once that dries I then go in with a cream product. My current eye cocktail is made up of the Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask. Now I realise that this actually isn’t specifically for the eyes but it works so well to hydrate and plump the area. The next product is my cream and it is the Antipodes Kiwi Seed Oil Eye Cream*. I love the rich creamy consistency and I find that it really leaves my under eye area deeply nourished.

I also use eye patches more regularly to ensure maximum hydration. My favourite eye patches to reach for are without doubt Pixi Beauty Detoxifeye Depuffing Hydrogel Under Eye Patches. They hydrate and nourish my eye area leaving it more plumped and youthful. Hurrah to that!

The Glow

The change in the air combined with the increased use of central heating does not add up to a glowing complexion. It can feel like a constant battle trying to maintain a healthy and radiant appearance. Fortunately, there are some incredible products that make this task easier. My first port of call is my Alpha H Liquid Gold, I swear by this product. It uses glycolic acid to gently exfoliate the skin removing the nasty dead skin cells that dull our complexion.

Now that I have the ideal blank canvas to continue with my routine, my serum of choice is the Glow Berry Brightening Serum* from Tropic Skincare. Formulated with a powerful blend of super-brightening berries and highly effective plant extracts to banish hyperpigmentation and give you radiant, younger-looking skin. It gives my skin the much-needed pick me up that it so craves at this time of year.

Moisturiser

My skin goes through a problematic adjustment period as the season changes. Oil production is increased tenfold, coupled with drier patches which can be tricky to manage initially. I use more than one moisturiser in my routine at this time of year and I find that works best for my skin concerns. In the morning I opt for a hydrating moisturiser with hyaluronic acid. My current go-to is my Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel. It is ideal for daytime as it hydrates and nourishes without being too heavy.

My evening routine sees me reaching for a heavier cream and I am going between my Dermalogica Sound Sleep Cocoonand Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream. They give that extra fix of deeper hydration and moisture while I sleep, leaving my skin plumped and nourished when I wake. Saving the most important step till last is of course SPF. This is an absolute must and non-negotiable part of my routine as it should everybody. My current love is Fenty Skin Hydra Vizor Invisible Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Sunscreen (full review).

The Finishing Touches

To round off my routine I finish off by applying my favourite lip balm, Clinique Moisture Surge Lip Hydro Plump Treatment to ensure my lips are equally well cared for. My final touch is a facial mist to a final hit of hydration and my mists of choice are Omorovicza Queen Of Hungary Mist and Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Ultra Fine Mist.

Hydrating Eye must haves
